There are unique environmental concerns that affect the use of space. We work with partners to indentify and understand the nature of these concerns, including the orbital environment and the environment of space beyond the orbital paths of space assets.

We explore how susceptible are military, civil and commercial space assets to interference, disablement and destruction from environmental threats in space.

We assess ways in which to advance the optimal sharing of Space Situational Awareness data, which is essential to prevent and mitigate environmental threats to space assets.

We identify the nature and scope of threats to space assets as a result of orbital debris and potentially hazardous Near Earth Objects that may impact the Earth.

We investigate how planetary protection policies influence programs and projects. The protection of the environment deals with making sure that harmful contamination in space, on planetary bodies, and any contamination as a consequence of introducing extraterrestrial matter to Earth are effectively mitigated and managed.
