Space Governance

We establish effective governance of the space environment.

Space is more crowded than ever, not just physically, but also electronically. The number of objects in orbit is an issue and electronic encroachment of data transfers from space assets is a problem.

We examine for partners how and in what ways governance of the space environment can be advanced to address a number of issues.

  • Environmental dangers in space posited by orbital debris present a risk to space assets. There are also associated costs in space mission development to prevent further debris proliferation of the orbital environment.
  • There exist scarcity of resources and their efficient use in space concerning electromagnetic spectrum and orbital slot allocations.
  • International standards address space environmental challenges and are necessary for space organizations and businesses to exercise due diligence in their safety and liability concerns, and policy and legal obligations.
  • Space traffic management requires attention as there is currently no policy or any set of agreed upon international rules of the road or codes of conduct.
  • Improved governance of space depends on the sharing of Space Situational Awareness between the military space sector, which acquires and controls this data, and civil and commercial entities.
